US Senator Rick Scott’s Week in Review 02/25/24

Dear Fellow Floridian,

Since Biden took office, we’ve seen an alarming rise in criminals, drugs and terrorists coming across our southern border, all thanks to this administration’s open border policies. It’s bad for our families’ safety and a threat to our national security, and it’s why I’ve been saying for years that Mayorkas MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE for his willful, total failure to secure the border.

Last week, the House took the necessary steps to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, and it’s time the Senate now do its job and hold a trial. Unsurprisingly, we’re already hearing rumors that Democrats want to sweep this under the rug and move on, but I won’t let that happen.

Senate Leadership failed to ensure our border was secure before sending American tax dollars to Ukraine. We cannot allow another failure by letting Democrats stop the Senate from conducting a full impeachment trial, too. Senate Conservatives and I told Leader McConnell in our letter this week that we must do everything in our power to hold Mayorkas accountable. Republicans MUST take a stand.

It’s why I sent a letter to Vice President Kamala Harris urging her to fulfill her constitutional duty to serve as the presiding officer. As the President of the Senate, Vice President Harris is the appropriate constitutional presiding officer to oversee the impeachment trial of Secretary Mayorkas, and her appointment as President Biden’s “border czar” only makes her role in the Mayorkas impeachment trial more critical.

These next few weeks are a true test of whether Democrats are serious about ACTUALLY securing our southern border and doing the hard work it takes to keep our country safe. Rest assured, I will be fighting every step of the way to make sure Florida families are heard and communities are kept safe.
