Dear Fellow Floridian, With the 2024 Hurricane Season beginning this weekend, I spent this week traveling around Florida to send one very clear message: now is the time for every family to make a plan and get prepared. In previous hurricane seasons, we saw terrible devastation and flooding in communities across Florida. Most recently, Ian and Idalia reminded us that severe weather can approach and change course so quickly. And just a few years before that, Hurricane Michael served as an important reminder that we all need to be prepared. We have to take every storm seriously. Even without a direct hit, communities still see massive flooding, road closures and storm surge. There’s no reason ANY of us should take the risk of being complacent and unprepared. We never want to see a disaster hit, and I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure you’re informed and have every resource you need to stay safe, but you have to do your part and make a plan. Senator Rick Scott joined Senators Mike Lee, JD Vance, Tommy Tuberville, Eric Schmitt, Marsha Blackburn, Roger Marshall and Marco Rubio in a pledge against any expedited consideration or passage of measures or nominees that help Joe Biden and Democrats advance their mission of tearing the country apart. This comes as the White House disrespects the rule of law, and continually politicizes and weaponizes the U.S. judicial system. This week, Senator Scott will traveling around Florida to emphasize the importance of hurricane preparedness and meet with local elected leaders, law enforcement, emergency management officials and business owners. Senator Scott continues fighting to ensure Washington remains a partner to Floridians still recovering from past storms and will show up should disaster strike again. Earlier this month, Senator Scott sent a letter to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Deanne Criswell once again voicing concerns about the impending exhaustion of the Disaster Relief Fund (DRF). As Floridians prepare for the upcoming hurricane season, the DRF must be full funded and able to respond following natural disasters. This letter follows reports that the agency expects the DRF to run out of funds by August 2024 and may need to activate an immediate needs funding designation as early as June. Read more HERE. Rick Scott Calls on Turks and Caicos Governor to Swiftly Release Detained Floridian Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to the Governor of Turks and Caicos Islands Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam urging the swift resolution of a case involving Floridian Sharitta Grier, who is one of five Americans recently arrested on the island for an unintentional mistake, two of whom were recently released back to the United States. Senator Scott has been in contact with the U.S. Department of State and the British Ambassador to discuss any actions needed to ensure these Americans are returned home safely as soon as possible. Rick Scott Leads Investigation Request into Energy Department EV Scheme Senator Scott wrote a letter to the Government Accountability Office Comptroller General Gene Dodaro with concerns the Department of Energy is incorrectly, and likely intentionally, setting an inflated petroleum equivalency factor (PEF) for electric vehicles (EVs). Senator Scott is requesting the GAO conduct an investigation into the Department of Energy and their practices setting the agency’s directive for automakers’ corporate average fuel economy standards that may enable automakers to earn nearly seven times more credits per EV than rated fuel economy would allow—and possibly generating subsidies that exceed $10,000 per EV. Read more HERE. — Senator Rick Scott sent a letter to Gary Gensler, Chair of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC), raising concerns regarding the Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-linked electric vehicle company Zeekr that is trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Zeekr is a subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, a Chinese conglomerate with close ties to the CCP. In the letter, Senator Scott is requesting Chair Gensler to better protect and inform U.S. investors about Chinese companies, like Zeekr, that are linked to countries actively working against, and seeking to destroy, America while undermining national security and the integrity of U.S. capital markets. Read more HERE. — Following growing concern regarding the presence of communication equipment on cranes manufactured by Chinese-State-owned companies, Senator Rick Scott and Congressman Carlos Gimenez wrote a letter to Maritime Administration Administrator Rear Admiral Ann. C. Phillips requesting a delinquent report, as required in the Fiscal Year 2023 National Defense Authorization Act, that addresses the cybersecurity and national security threats posed by foreign-manufactured cranes at United States ports. The results of the study were due to Congress in December 2023, yet have not been received as of today. Read more HERE. — Sen. Rick Scott Shares Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis Following the recent announcement from the Bureau of Economic Analysis’ PCE Report showing April prices paid by consumers for goods and services increased 2.7% over the year, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement and a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. Senator Rick Scott said, “Every day that goes by, Florida families are feeling the compounding impacts of Biden’s economic crisis.
