Dear Fellow Floridian,

This week, I ran to be the Republican Leader in the United States Senate because the status quo is broken in Washington. Although the results of our leadership elections weren’t what I hoped for, this is far from the end of our fight to Make Washington Work.

I believe that this week marked the beginning of a new era in the Senate. Throughout my life, and especially during my eight years as Governor of Florida, I have been frustrated by the broken status quo in Washington that continuously fails to deliver on its promises to the American people. That’s why I ran for Senate in 2018 – to end the status quo by fighting every day to Make Washington Work for Florida families. We’ve made progress in this fight, but I know there is so much more that could get done if Washington commits to a plan and works together as a team to advance the priorities that matter most to American families.

There is nothing but opportunity before us and I will never stop fighting for you. I will never stop fighting to end Joe Biden’s reckless government spending and the devastating inflation Democrats have caused; to finally take action to protect Social Security and Medicare and preserve the promise of these programs for our children and grandchildren; to hold government accountable, from the FBI to the IRS; to truly combat the extreme danger posed by Communist China; and to refocus our military on lethal defense instead of woke nonsense. My resolve to stand up for what families across this nation stand for has never been stronger than it is today. So many of you reached out to support my efforts this week and I could not be more grateful. I never thought for a moment that this fight would be easy, but I’m optimistic that, together, we can rescue America with the principles that unite us against the dangerous path Democrats have set it on.

Sens. Rick Scott & Marco Rubio Urge Biden Administration to Quickly Determine Disaster Assistance Needed Following Hurricanes

Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio sent a letter to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Shalanda Young requesting an expedited compilation and submission to Congress of the disaster assistance figures related to Hurricanes Fiona, Ian and Nicole. Congress relies on these submissions to take up and pass emergency disaster funding so communities impacted by storms have all the resources needed to fully recover.

This week’s letter to OMB Director Young follows the letter Senators Scott and Rubio sent in the days immediately following Hurricane Ian to Senators Patrick Leahy and Richard Shelby, the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, requesting their support in developing a disaster supplemental to provide much needed assistance to Florida as Floridians recover from Major Hurricane Ian.

Sen. Rick Scott on PPI Report: Biden’s Raging Inflation Crisis is Destroying the American Dream

With Thanksgiving around the corner, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which showed inflation continued to rise in October increasing 8.0% over the year.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden and Democrats in Washington are obsessed with spending money that we don’t have and it’s crushing small businesses and hardworking families in every community across America. Joe Biden’s inflation is making the American Dream unreachable for too many, especially poor families like the one I grew up in. It is time to stop this Biden spending spree once and for all, and it is beyond time to give struggling families a break. The only way to curb record-high costs is to demand fiscal responsibility that will finally end this national nightmare, and that is exactly what I am fighting to do.”

Sen. Rick Scott: I Proudly Support the Gay Community & Will Fight for a Stronger Bill That Protects All Americans

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following his vote on the Respect for Marriage Act.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I proudly support the gay community in Florida and across the nation and will aggressively fight any attempt to take away the ability for same-sex couples to marry and live their dreams in our great country. Unfortunately, the bill under consideration by the U.S. Senate does not adequately protect the religious liberties of all Americans, as guaranteed by the Constitution. Thankfully, Senator Mike Lee has an amendment to both codify protections for same-sex marriage into law AND maintain ironclad protections for religious liberty. I strongly urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to join me in supporting Senator Lee’s amendment and working together to get this done the right way and with overwhelming support.”

Sen. Rick Scott’s Bipartisan Bill to Increase Disaster Resiliency & Save Taxpayer Dollars Headed to President’s Desk

Senator Rick Scott and Senator Gary Peters’ Disaster Resiliency Planning Act  was passed by the House of Representatives and heads to the president’s desk to become law. The Disaster Resiliency Planning Act  requires federal agencies to take disaster resilience into account when investing in and managing federal property and assets. The legislation builds off of a 2021 report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), which found that over the past five years, the government spent billions of dollars to repair federal property damage resulting from natural disasters. The bill will help ensure that federal property – such as hospitals, research centers, offices, and roads and bridges – can withstand worsening natural disasters and save taxpayer dollars that would be spent on damages. The legislation was passed by the Senate back in June.

Senator Rick Scott said, “In Florida, we know how valuable pre-disaster mitigation is and that preparedness saves lives. With this good bill on its way to becoming law, federal assets like hospitals and critical infrastructure will be safer when disaster inevitably strikes. We are resilient because we prepare and I am proud that our bipartisan and commonsense approach to disaster mitigation efforts passed the House and heads to the president’s desk this week.”

Senator Rick Scott released a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. Since being elected to the U.S. Senate, Senator Scott has urged government accountability to the American taxpayer.
