Dear Fellow Floridian,

While hundreds of thousands of Floridians are working hard to recover from Hurricane Ian, this week’s CPI and PPI reports were infuriating reminders that Joe Biden’s raging inflation is still crushing families across the Sunshine State. Biden’s inflation causes pain for families every day, but in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane, high prices are a hurdle that families in our state shouldn’t have to deal with. If President Biden truly cares about helping Floridians, he’ll stop recklessly wasting tax dollars on a failed, woke agenda, refocus his administration on the core responsibilities of the federal government and demand a balanced budget to finally end his inflation nightmare.

This week, I continued visiting and speaking with mayors, law enforcement, business, faith and community leaders, utilities and federal officials to ensure Florida’s families and communities are getting every resource needed to recover from Ian. I remain 100%  committed to ensuring that FEMA and the federal government collaborate with state and local officials so we continue to get resources and aid deployed quickly.

Sincerely,

Sen. Rick Scott Statement on Parkland Shooter Jury Decision

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the jury’s decision to recommend life in prison without parole on all counts for the Parkland school gunman who murdered 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14, 2018.

Senator Rick Scott said, “There are few days that go by without my thoughts turning to the tragic shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. On February 14, 2018, a monster took 17 innocent lives and forever changed the Parkland community, the State of Florida and our nation. Now, more than four years after that horrific day, I know the pain felt by the families and loved ones of those we lost is still difficult for them to bear. I remain close with these families and know that many of us find it hard to understand how such brutal crimes could be met with anything but the most severe punishment allowed under our laws. While I have faith in our justice system, today’s decision is not what many of us expected. I can only pray that as each phase of this painful process concludes, those whose hearts were torn by this monster find some measure of closure, and that our Heavenly Father delivers to them the peace of knowing that they will one day be reunited in His kingdom with those we so tragically lost.”

Sen. Rick Scott on PPI Inflation Report: Skyrocketing Inflation Makes Hurricane Ian Recovery More Challenging

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which showed inflation continued to rise in September increasing 8.5% over the year—higher than expected.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Skyrocketing inflation has been hurting Florida families every day for nearly two years. But, when times get tough, inflation becomes an unbearable kick for families trying to get back on their feet. Make no mistake—Joe Biden’s skyrocketing inflation is a huge roadblock for so many families now fighting to recover from Hurricane Ian. Nevertheless, we won’t allow Biden’s failures to keep Florida down. Floridians are strong and we are so grateful for all of the non-profits and volunteers who are selflessly serving families across Florida who have been devastated by Hurricane Ian. Everyone is working to deliver more with dollars that buy less. Together, Floridians will get through this difficult recovery and in Washington, I’ll be fighting as hard as ever to get reckless spending under control and end the crushing pain caused by Biden’s raging inflation.”

Sen. Rick Scott on CPI Report: Biden’s Raging Inflation is Crushing Floridians Recovering From Ian

Following the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Senator Rick Scott released the below statement highlighting the need to implement substantive fiscal reforms to end the ongoing inflation crisis fueled by the Biden administration’s reckless tax-and-spend agenda. September’s CPI data shows that there has been significant inflation nearly every month of Biden’s presidency. While year-over-year consumer prices increased 8.2% in September, rent prices reached the largest increase since 1982.

Senator Rick Scott said, “While hundreds of thousands of Floridians are working hard to recover from Hurricane Ian, today’s CPI report is an infuriating reminder that Joe Biden’s raging inflation is still crushing families across the Sunshine State. Biden’s inflation causes pain for families every day, but in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane, high prices are a hurdle that families in our state shouldn’t have to deal with. Sen. Rick Scott Urges Action in Letters to EV Makers & U.S. DOT After Reports of Dangerous Vehicle Fires Following Hurricane Ian

As Hurricane Ian recovery efforts continue across Florida, Senator Rick Scott sent letters to Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers urging action and requesting information regarding the safety of lithium ion batteries in EVs. Following the storm, there have been numerous reports of EVs catching fire after being submerged in Ian’s flood waters. These fires have proven to be extremely dangerous and last for prolonged periods—taking up to six hours to extinguish in many cases. This emerging threat has forced local fire departments to divert resources away from hurricane recovery to control and contain these dangerous fires.
