On Tuesday, I led the entire Florida congressional delegation in a letter to the Chairmen and Ranking Members of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives Committees on Veterans’ Affairs requesting that they advance my bill to name the new Clay County Veterans Affairs Clinic, in Middleburg, FL, the “Andrew K. Baker Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic.” Read more  here .

On Monday, I released a statement following reports that Intel Corporation removed references to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in a letter to suppliers. Read more  here.

On Monday, I joined Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Chris Coons (D-DE), Joni Ernst (R-IA), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and John Barrasso (R-WY), fellow members of the Senate NATO Observer Group, in sending a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to use this week’s diplomatic talks at the NATO-Russia Council meeting to deter Russian dictator Vladimir Putin from further invading Ukraine and make clear that the U.S. will not accept Putin’s demands to dictate NATO’s decision-making. On Tuesday, I published an op-ed in the Washington  Examiner discussing the need to hold Beijing accountable for the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure a full investigation into its origins is completed. Read the op-ed  here .

On Tuesday, I issued a statement commemorating the six-month anniversary of the July 11th anti-communist protests against the Cuban regime throughout the island of Cuba. Read more  here.


On Tuesday, I sent a letter to Dr. Janet Woodcock, Acting Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), regarding the agency’s recent guidance that race and ethnicity should be a primary factor in determining which patients receive life-saving COVID-19 treatments, such as monoclonal antibodies and oral antiviral drugs. On Tuesday, I sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging his administration to support the Colombian government as it seeks to contain and mitigate the destabilizing impact that drug-related conflict has on both Colombia and the Western Hemisphere as a whole. Later that day, I published an op-ed on  Medium further explaining why prioritizing the security of Colombia in 2022 is critical to the security of our hemisphere. On Wednesday, as Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, I spoke at an open hearing on the nomination of Kenneth Wainstein to serve as Under Secretary for Intelligence and Analysis at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Watch my remarks  here

On Wednesday, I sent a letter to Robin Carnahan, Administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), after reports that the Drug Enforcement Agency, the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Finance and Accounting Service, and the Department of the Army purchased products by Lorex, a subsidiary of China-based Dahua Technology, via a GSA portal. On Wednesday, I sent a letter to President Joe Biden inquiring what steps his administration has taken to ensure that all U.S. Olympic athletes are “sufficiently protected from Beijing’s surveillance and manipulation.” Read more here

On Thursday, I  joined Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) and Republican colleagues in sending a letter to U.S. Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona demanding answers as to whether he played a key role in orchestrating a letter from the National School Board Association that called concerned parents “domestic terrorists.”  Read more  here

On Thursday, I joined Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), and Mike Braun (R-IN) in applauding the unanimous Senate passage of our resolution commending José Daniel Ferrer, leader of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU), and other Cuban democracy activists. Read more  here

On Friday, I published an op-ed in  Fox News discussing my plan to ensure that schools that refuse to reopen to in-person learning do not receive federal taxpayer dollars. Read the op-ed  here.

On Thursday, I joined  Ninoska Perez on Radio Mambí to discuss Democrats’ attempts to federalize elections, election integrity, the potential deployment of Russian troops to Latin America, my resolution supporting Cuban human rights activists, and the possibility of the Biden Administration cutting funds for Radio Televisión Martí. Legislation Introduced

  • On Monday, I  introduced the  Keep Kids in School Act of 2022, which would prohibit around $164 billion in unspent COVID-19 relief funding from going to elementary and secondary schools that do not offer in-person instruction on a full-time basis for all enrolled students. Read more  here.

  • On Tuesday, I led Senators Tim Scott (R-SC), John Cornyn (R-TX), Rick Scott (R-FL), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Steve Daines (R-MT), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), James Lankford (R-OK), Ben Sasse (R-NE), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Mike Braun (R-IN), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and John Kennedy (R-LA) in introducing the  Coronavirus Origin Validation, Investigation, and Determination (COVID) Act of 2022.   • On Thursday, I introduced the  Deterring Authoritarian Hostilities Act of 2022, a bill to impose immediate and harsh, personal sanctions on Vladimir Putin and the rest of the authoritarian leadership of Russia if Russian troops further invade Ukraine. Read more  here.
