This week, Senator Rick Scott spoke with Ana Belkis Ferrer, Luis Enrique Ferrer and Martha Ferrer, the family members of José Daniel Ferrer, a Cuban freedom and human rights activist who has been unjustly imprisoned by the illegitimate communist Cuban regime for more than 150 days.

After speaking with José Daniel’s family, Senator Scott also spoke with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres and Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General Luis Almagro and urged them to use their positions to immediately demand and secure humanitarian medical visits for José Daniel and all other jailed freedom activists. Senator Scott also spoke with an official at the White House, but only after the White House hung up on Senator Scott when he called to speak with someone about the torture of José Ferrer.

Senator Scott continues to urge all who support freedom, democracy and human rights to stand up, be loud and condemn the crimes against humanity committed by the Diaz-Canel and Castro regime. The people of Cuba deserve freedom from this tyranny and true democracy where they can live without fear.

Sen. Rick Scott Leads Colleagues in Bill to Block Biden’s Tax Dollar Giveaway to Illegal Immigrants

Senator Rick Scott led Senators Pat Toomey, Bill Cassidy, Mike Rounds, Bill Hagerty, Mike Braun and James Lankford in introducing the Congressional Review of Agency Legal Settlements Act following reports that the Biden administration is considering using U.S. taxpayer dollars to pay settlements of $450,000 per person to illegal aliens separated at the southern border after being caught unlawfully entering the country. The Congressional Review of Agency Legal Settlements Act empowers Congress with necessary oversight to ensure agencies are not skirting the formal rulemaking processes of the Administrative Procedures Act and are not misusing appropriations of federal taxpayer dollars with exorbitant financial awards in legal settlements.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Biden’s plan to pay out $450,000 — nearly half a million dollars — to illegal immigrants who broke U.S. laws is ridiculous and must be stopped. Not even the families of our fallen service members receive this amount of money. Instead of dishing out money to people who have no respect for our laws, Biden should be focused on fixing the problem and securing our border. Instead, he’s giving people an incentive to break our laws. It doesn’t make any sense. That’s why I’m introducing the Congressional Review of Agency Legal Settlements Act today to hold the Biden administration accountable and give Congress the oversight needed to ensure federal agencies can’t recklessly waste American tax dollars. I appreciate the support of Senators Pat Toomey, Bill Cassidy, Mike Rounds, Bill Hagerty, Mike Braun and James Lankford in this effort and urge all of our colleagues to support this good bill.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Urges Biden, UN & OAS to Demand Life-Saving Action for Cuba’s Jailed Freedom Activists

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement after phone calls with White House National Security Council Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere Juan Gonzalez, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres and Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General Luis Almagro to discuss the urgent human rights crisis in Cuba. During his conversations with these officials, Senator Scott urged them to use their positions to immediately demand and secure humanitarian medical visits for José Daniel Ferrer, a Cuban freedom and human rights activist who has been unjustly imprisoned by the illegitimate communist Cuban regime for more than 150 days, and all other jailed freedom activists. Senator Scott is also urging the Biden administration to work with the UN, OAS and other human rights groups and members of the international community to secure the immediate release of all jailed freedom activists in Cuba. These calls, which occurred over the past two days, follow Senator Scott’s conversation on Tuesday with members of José Daniel Ferrer’s family.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Yesterday, I spoke with Ana Belkis Ferrer, Luis Enrique Ferrer and Martha Ferrer. These family members told me that every day, José Daniel is subjected to physical and psychological torture by the brutal communist Cuban regime in an attempt to end his life. He’s suffering from severe headaches, mouth bleeding, malnutrition, cough and insomnia – all products of the cruel torture and inhumane treatment from the regime. It is clear that these actions stem from the regime’s total fear over José Daniel’s leadership in the movement for freedom and democracy spreading across Cuba. The horrific reality is that José Daniel and other innocent people are dying. The United States and our partners across the world must demand humanitarian intervention to save their lives.

“After the strange incident this morning, I was pleased to finally speak with someone in the White House about the horrific abuses suffered by José Daniel Ferrer and other freedom activists at the hands of the illegitimate communist Cuban regime. I also appreciate UN Secretary-General António Guterres and OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro for their time and commitment to work with us on this human rights crisis. José Daniel has been unjustly imprisoned for more than 150 days, and it’s been six months since the demonstrations for freedom and democracy began across Cuba. We cannot tolerate further delays and inaction. Everyone who supports freedom, democracy and human rights must stand up, be loud and condemn the crimes against humanity committed by the Diaz-Canel and Castro regime. The people of Cuba deserve freedom from this tyranny and true democracy where they can live without fear. I truly hope that following these calls, the Biden administration and our partners in the fight to protect human rights will take action and unapologetically stand with José Daniel Ferrer and the brave Cuban people fighting for their freedom.” Read more HERE.

OAS Demands Aid for Cuban Political Prisoners Following Call with Sen. Rick Scott

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement thanking Organization of American States (OAS) Secretary General Luis Almagro for his communique on Cuban political prisoners.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I want to thank OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro for his immediate attention to the brutal human rights abuses occurring in Cuba and the urgent need to secure humanitarian medical visits for José Daniel Ferrer and the other brave freedom activists being unjustly jailed and tortured by the communist Cuban regime. As I stressed following my calls yesterday with the White House and United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, the United States and our partners across the world must demand humanitarian intervention to save their lives and continue fighting for the immediate release of all jailed freedom activists. We cannot tolerate further delays and inaction. I am very grateful for Secretary General Almagro’s partnership in this important fight and hope to also see action from the UN and the Biden administration in the coming days. Working together, we can help bring positive change and freedom to the people of Cuba.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Applauds Bipartisan Passage of Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement regarding the passage of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Senator Rick Scott co-sponsored the original bipartisan legislation led by Senator Marco Rubio, which will ensure that goods made with Uyghur forced labor in the Xinjiang region do not enter the United States’ supply chain.

Senator Rick Scott said, “This week we sent a loud message to General Secretary Xi: the United States will not tolerate Communist China’s horrific human rights abuses and genocide of Uyghurs. The United States has a duty to take a stand against these atrocities through prevention and punishment, and every American company should be taking every possible step to ensure their products and supply chains are free from slave labor. That’s why it’s shameful big corporations, like Apple and Nike, and members of the Biden administration, like John Kerry, secretly lobbied against the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. I am proud to have fought for this good bill, and I appreciate my colleagues for standing against this abuse. I encourage every American to signal their opposition to this genocide, stop buying products made in Communist China and support companies that stand up for human rights.”Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: 2022 NDAA Secures Big Wins for Florida’s Military Families & Bases

Following the Senate’s passage of the 2022 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), Senator Rick Scott, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the below statement highlighting this important legislation that secures big wins for Florida’s military families, installations and U.S. national security.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I have fought all year to ensure the Fiscal Year 2022 NDAA includes big wins for Florida’s military interests and that’s exactly what we secured in this bill. We successfully defeated Joe Biden’s radical efforts to cut the military’s budget and secured critical funding for Tyndall Air Force Base – a strategic hub for the future of F-35 based air warfare – to have the necessary resources to continue this crucial mission. With 20 military bases and three unified commands, Florida is proud of its important role in America’s national defense. As threats from our enemies grow more dangerous, now is not the time for appeasement or weak leadership. I will never forget my most important job as U.S. Senator is to protect and serve the families of our nation, and I won’t stop fighting to ensure we properly invest in America’s greatest asset — the men and women of our armed forces.” Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Applauds Commerce Committee Passage of Bipartisan Tourism Legislation

Senator Rick Scott, the Ranking Member of the Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion Subcommittee, applauded the Senate Committee on Commerce’s unanimous passage of their bipartisan Omnibus Travel and Tourism Act of 2021. This bill includes provisions to study how COVID-19 impacts the travel and tourism industries, direct the U.S. Department of Commerce to implement strategies to improve the industries and open up international travel.

Senator Rick Scott said, “While Americans are working hard to recover from COVID-19, our nation’s travel and tourism industries are critical to supporting small businesses, fueling job growth and getting our economy fully re-opened. The Commerce Committee’s passage of the Omnibus Travel and Tourism Act  today is great news and an important step forward to safely and fully bring back the tourism industry after the devastating impacts of the pandemic. As Ranking Member of the Tourism, Trade, and Export Promotion Subcommittee, I’m proud to see this important piece of legislation, which is the product of many hearings in our Subcommittee this year, continue to move forward in the Senate. We heard from small businesses and employees to better understand how Congress can be helpful to their industry’s recovery. I’ll continue working to support our tourism industry in Florida and across our nation, and I thank my colleagues for their bipartisan support of this bill.” Read more from the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott, Rubio Introduce Bill to Prevent Foreign Citizens from Voting in American Elections

Senator Rick Scott joined Senator Marco Rubio and colleagues to introduce the Protecting Our Democracy by Preventing Foreign Citizens from Voting Act to prohibit federal funding to states and localities that allow foreigners to vote.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Each and every elected official in the United States should be chosen by the American citizens they represent. It’s absolutely insane that any state or locality would give our precious right to vote to foreign citizens and truly sad that legislation like this is even needed, but I won’t stand by and let radical politicians open America’s voting booths to foreign interference. I hope every member of the Senate stands with us in supporting this commonsense bill.” Read more from Senator Rubio’s office HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott to FIFA, International Sports Associations: Stand for Peng Shuai & Athletes’ Safety, Get Out of Communist China

Senator Rick Scott wrote to eight international sports associations urging them to follow the lead of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and immediately suspend all planned events in Communist China. These organizations all currently have scheduled sanctioned competitions in Communist China, including at the 2022 Winter Olympics. Senator Scott is urging the sports associations to suspend all involvement with Communist China until Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai, who disappeared and has been the victim of intense censorship, is free from coercion, allowed to freely speak and there is a thorough and completely transparent investigation into her accusations of sexual assault.

This letter follow’s Senator Scott’s letter to National Basketball Association (NBA) Commissioner Adam Silver requesting a meeting to discuss the league’s involvement with Communist China. The NBA responded by refusing to meet with Senator Scott and choosing to continue appeasing Communist China. Read more HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott: Biden’s Raging Inflation Crisis Creates a Vicious Tax on Hardworking Families

Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) releasefrom the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which showed inflation continued to rise in November increasing 9.6% over the year, a significant increase from 8.6% the month prior, and the highest year-over-year PPI reading ever recorded. Senator Scott is demanding President Joe Biden address the impact of his reckless spending, like the $3 trillion Build Back Broke plan, and unconstitutional mandates which are fueling his inflation crisis and massive supply chain disruptions across America.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Another month of Biden’s reign means another month of rising inflation. Inflation is a vicious tax on working families that eats income. Even my home state of Florida, known for its low-cost living, is not safe from Biden’s inflation crisis. Tampa experienced the highest inflation out of any major city last month. It is absolutely outrageous that while families across America struggle to make ends meet and put food on the table, Biden wants to throw gasoline on a raging inflation crisis with more reckless spending. I watched my mom struggle with rising prices when I was growing up and I know just how hard inflation can be on a family when every penny counts. Biden must be out of his mind if he thinks adding another three trillion dollars to the national debt is going to help his inflation problem. Today’s PPI report cannot be ignored. We must kill the Democrats’ reckless tax-and-spending spree before their dangerous socialist agenda hurts even more hardworking families.” Read more HERE.

Senators Rick Scott, Marsha Blackburn and Gary Peters applauded the Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee passage of their bipartisan Securing Semiconductor Supply Chains Act which strengthens federal efforts to expand domestic manufacturing of semiconductor chips by directing the U.S. Department of Commerce’s SelectUSA program to develop strategies to attract investment in U.S. semiconductor manufacturers and supply chains.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Commerce Committee passage of the Securing Semiconductor Supply Chains Act today is great news and an important step toward fixing America’s chip shortage that has had negative impacts on families, businesses and our national security. As Communist China’s aggression grows in this industry, the United States must become more competitive on a global scale and I thank my colleagues for their support of this important bill.” Read more from Senator Peter’s office HERE.

Senators Rick Scott, Rubio, Schatz and Hirono Applaud Committee Passage of Restoring Resilient Reefs Act

Senators Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, Brian Schatz and Mazie Hirono applauded the Senate Committee on Commerce’s unanimous passage of their bipartisan Restoring Resilient Reefs Act of 2021 which will reauthorize and modernize the Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000 and strengthen NOAA’s Coral Reef program.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Today’s passage of the Restoring Resilient Reefs Act by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation is a great win for Florida’s environment, and will build on our efforts to help restore and protect our coral reef ecosystems. I am proud to have helped write, cosponsor, and push for the passage of this good bill, and I’ll never stop fighting to make sure future generations can enjoy all that Florida has to offer. I want to thank my colleagues, Senators Rubio, Hirono and Schatz for their hard work on this legislation, and I look forward to seeing the Restoring Resilient Reefs Act pass on the Senate floor and become law.” Read more from Senator Rubio’s office HERE.

Sen. Rick Scott Issues Weekly Update on Biden’s Inflation Crisis

Senator Rick Scott released a weekly update on his actions to address America’s debt crisis and rising inflation. This release comes after the White House once again refusing to take responsibility for the growing inflation crisis fueled by Biden’s dangerous policies. After blaming the oil industry for high gas prices, the Biden administration is now targeting meat-makers for inflation. Rather than taking responsibility for their inflation and supply chain crises and implementing substantive policies that will help families struggling with higher prices and shrinking budgets, the Biden administration, in typical hypocritical fashion, is blaming others. Sen. Rick Scott and Rep. Carlos Gimenez in Miami Herald: We have a Solution to the Supply-Chain Crisis, Which Biden Administration is Ignoring

Senator Rick Scott and Congressman Carlos Gimenez wrote an op-ed for the Miami Herald highlighting their solution to President Biden’s growing supply-chain crisis, the Supply Chain Emergency Response Act. Their bill will redirect $125 million of unspent CARES Act funds to subsidize the cost for cargo vessels stuck on the West Coast of the U.S. and reroute to the East Coast where ports, especially those in Florida, are open for business.

In the op-edSenator Rick Scott and Congressman Carlos Gimenez wrote, “It is a grave failure of the Biden administration that our store shelves are empty, and that Americans cannot find basic goods and products. These supply-chain issues have been festering for months, and rather than the Biden administration taking meaningful action to fix them, it, instead, has doubled-down on the premise that everything is OK.

That is why we came together to introduce the Supply Chain Emergency Response Act, a commonsense solution to get Washington working for Florida’s families.

Our legislation redirects $125 million of unspent, unobligated CARES Act funds to facilitate cargo vessels currently on hold along the West Coast to cross the Panama Canal and dock in the East.

Getting these cargo vessels to Florida and other Eastern states also alleviates the shipping-container shortage, which has made it difficult for American producers to ship their goods and products abroad. Despite what the Biden administration wants to say, empty shelves grow more common, prices are surging higher and small businesses can’t access the goods they need to serve their customers. President Biden’s supply chain and inflation crises are devastating for so many Americans, but it’s our poorest families, those on low and fixed incomes like ours growing up, that are hurt the most.

Fortunately, Florida’s ports are ready and able to help with this crisis, and it is our hope that all of our colleagues work with us to quickly pass this good and urgently needed bill to provide a commonsense solution to this supply chain crisis.”

This week, Sergeant First Class Alwyn Cashe of Oviedo, Florida, posthumously received our nation’s highest award for valor in combat, the Congressional Medal of Honor. On Oct. 17, 2005, a roadside bomb detonated under his Bradley Fighting Vehicle, setting the vehicle and the soldiers inside on fire. With complete disregard for his own safety, he repeatedly entered a burning vehicle to save six soldiers and an interpreter. He is a true example of what this award signifies.

Senator Rick Scott was an original co-sponsor of the legislation, signed into law by President Trump, that allowed Sergeant First Class Cashe to posthumously receive the award.

His bravery, heroism, and service to his fellow soldiers represent the best of what it means to be an American and a Floridian. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.
