US Senator Rick Scott News Alert 10/22/2021

NEWS ALERT!

Sen. Rick Scott: Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates Hurt American Businesses and Families

As President Biden’s latest overreaching vaccine mandate on private businesses and reckless socialist policies cripple the United States’ supply chain and worsen the ongoing inflation crisis that’s leaving families with less and less money to feed their families, Senator Rick Scott continues to stand up for the rights and opportunities of every American family.

Senator Scott received the COVID-19 vaccine, and encourages every American to talk with their doctor and consider doing the same, but believes it is NOT the government’s job to mandate. Government’s job is to inform the American people and let them make their own decisions about their health. President Biden’s unconstitutional mandates are forcing Americans into an impossible ultimatum to comply, quit or be fired. That’s unacceptable, and Senator Scott is fighting against these insane, socialist policies that are hurting American families and businesses.

Sen. Rick Scott: Federal Reserve Proves Biden’s Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates are Killing Jobs

Following the Federal Reserve publishing its latest Beige Book report for October 2021, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement. In its report, the Federal Reserve found that vaccine mandates were widely cited by businesses as the reason for low labor supply and hiring and retention issues. The report states, “Transportation and technology firms saw particularly low labor supply, while many retail, hospitality, and manufacturing firms cut hours or production because they did not have enough workers. Firms reported high turnover, as workers left for other jobs or retired. Child-care issues and vaccine mandates were widely cited as contributing to the problem, along with COVID-related absences.” For weeks, Senator Scott has called for President Joe Biden to reverse his decision to implement unconstitutional vaccine mandates on America’s private businesses.

Senator Rick Scott said, “The Federal Reserve admitted what I have been warning about for weeks: Joe Biden’s unconstitutional vaccine mandates are causing higher turnover, driving Americans out of their jobs and further fueling the devastating supply chain and inflation crises plaguing American families. I had COVID and got the vaccine. While I encourage others to do the same, that was my personal choice. Getting the vaccine should be the personal choice of every American and government has no right to force this decision on them. Everything Joe Biden does makes things worse for families and businesses in Florida and across America. President Biden must rescind his proposed unconstitutional vaccine mandate. I’ll never stop fighting to stop Biden’s fear-mongering, socialist madness.”

This week, Senator Scott spoke on the Senate floor and requested unanimous consent on four separate bills which would prevent the federal government from mandating vaccines for eligible Americans to receive federal benefits including Social Security and Social Security disability checks, Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP, public housing and other assistance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), food stamps, the federal Women, Infants and Children (WIC) food assistance program and free-and-reduced lunch. Senate Democrats blocked the passage of each of these bills.

Earlier this month, Senator Scott wrote an op-ed for Fox Business and spoke on the Senate floor on how the Biden administration’s latest vaccine mandate for private companies will further cause workforce shortages, continue to cripple supply chains, and worsen the ongoing inflation crisis that is to blame for the increase of prices on everyday goods. In Washington, Senator Scott continues to fight for the rights of every American family. His Prevent Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates for Interstate Commerce Act will protect the privacy of Americans’ personal health information and prevent the government from dictating what is best for Americans and their families in order to go to work.

Democrats Block Sen. Rick Scott’s Legislation to Prevent Vaccine Mandates for Government Assistance

Senator Rick Scott spoke on the Senate floor to request unanimous consent on four separate bills which would prevent the federal government from mandating vaccines for eligible Americans to receive Social Security and Social Security disability checks, Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP, public housing and other assistance from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and food stamps, the federal Women, Infants and Children (WIC) food assistance program and free-and-reduced lunch. Senate Democrats blocked the passage of each of these bills.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As recently as July, the Biden administration said it wouldn’t issue federal vaccine mandates. Of course, as President Biden has done again and again, he broke his word. Not only are Democrats now eager to issue unconstitutional vaccine mandates, but today, they went even further and blocked my bills to say that the vaccine shouldn’t be a requirement for critical government services that help our most vulnerable and at-need American families. Democrats today said they are willing to revoke your social security checks, take away health care for the poor, elderly and vulnerable children, kick folks out of their homes and deny needed food assistance – all because of a personal medical decision to not receive a vaccine. Growing up, I watched my mom struggle and we lived in public housing. I can’t imagine someone from the federal government coming to my mom and saying that if she didn’t get a shot, she was going to be homeless. It’s insane.

“I had COVID and I got the vaccine. I encourage everyone to talk with their doctor and consider being vaccinated, but getting the vaccine is a choice everyone gets to make for themselves. It is NOT the role of the federal government to say ‘comply with unconstitutional mandates or go without Social Security, health care, housing or food benefits.’ What we are seeing under the Biden administration is gross overreach by the federal government across the board. From vaccine mandates to massive intrusion by the IRS into our bank accounts. It’s not what the American people want and I won’t stand for it.”

Sen. Rick Scott on the Senate Floor: Struggling Families & Businesses Can’t Afford Biden’s Unconstitutional Mandates and Systemic Socialism

Senator Rick Scott spoke on the Senate floor on how President Joe Biden’s overreaching and unconstitutional vaccine mandates for private companies trample on the personal freedoms of Americans and will cause massive shortages throughout American supply chains, further fueling Biden’s inflation crisis and higher prices on everyday goods for families already struggling to keep food on their tables.

Senator Scott is calling on President Biden to take immediate action to ensure the United States’ supply chains won’t completely crumble under his failed policies and mandates, and is urging the President to have Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo testify to the Senate Commerce Committee on this issue.

Senator Rick Scott said, “President Biden and the Democrats’ radical agenda of systemic socialism is crushing American families and businesses. It’s clear that Democrats want to control your life and their latest vaccine mandate on private companies is indisputable proof of that. Biden’s mandate forces people into an impossible ultimatum to comply, quit or be fired. This unconstitutional mandate tramples on the personal freedoms of Americans, will push more workers out of the workforce, devastate our economy with product and service shortages that cripple supply chains and throw America into a stagflation crisis not seen since the 1970’s.

“When I think about the impact of burdensome government regulations, I think about my dad who was a truck driver. Biden’s new mandate would not only put an insane burden on truck drivers and the trucking industry, but also fuel inflation hurting poor families, like mine growing up, who are already struggling to put food on the table with the massive inflation caused by Washington’s reckless spending. Americans can’t afford this. We need more jobs, not less; lower prices on everyday goods, not higher. The role of government is to inform, not mandate. Biden’s systemic socialism has to stop.”

Sen. Rick Scott: Hypocritical Democrats Push Americans to “Do As I Say, Not As I Do”

Senator Rick Scott released the following statement on hypocritical Democrats pushing vaccine mandates for private sector businesses.

Senator Rick Scott said, “What is happening with Democrats in Washington needs to be called out. For years, Democrats have made decision after decision that shows they want one set of rules for American families and another set of rules for themselves. When Democrats passed Obamacare over a decade ago, they forced Americans to change doctors and insurance plans, but wanted to exempt Congress from the law. Now, President Biden and the Democrats want to mandate vaccines for everyone in the private sector, but not members of Congress. Let me be clear: I think the vaccine is the best way to defeat COVID. That’s why I got the vaccine and encourage all Americans to talk with their doctor and consider doing the same. But mandates imposed by the government are wrong and what Democrats in Washington are doing is insane. This isn’t just hypocrisy. It’s a disgrace and a naked socialist power grab. That’s what systemic socialism is: a whole bunch of rules the American people have to follow that the ruling class doesn’t.”

Sen. Rick Scott: We Will Not Allow Vaccine Mandates to Hurt American Businesses

Senator Rick Scott was joined by Senators Ron Johnson, Cynthia Lummis, Roger Marshall and Mike Lee to introduce the Prevent Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates for Interstate Commerce Act. As the Biden administration is reportedly considering enforcing vaccine mandates for businesses merely seeking to engage in interstate commerce, the Prevent Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates for Interstate Commerce Act would protect the privacy of Americans’ personal health information and prohibit the Department of Transportation and other federal agencies from requiring proof of vaccination or the use of a vaccine passport for such activities. Representative Dan Crenshaw is introducing companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Senator Rick Scott said, “While American businesses are working hard to recover from the devastating impacts of COVID-19, President Biden is set on implementing more mandates, lockdowns and restrictions that are holding them back. I got the COVID-19 vaccine, and encourage everyone who feels comfortable to get it too, but government has no business pushing mandates on the American people and our hardworking businesses. It’s the government’s job to inform Americans and then let every family make the right choices that will keep themselves, their businesses and their employees safe. My Prevent Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates for Interstate Commerce Act ensures that the Biden administration cannot require anyone to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to do business across state borders, and protects Americans’ rights and privacy.”

The Prevent Unconstitutional Vaccine Mandates for Interstate Commerce Act would prohibit any of the following federal agencies from requiring Americans to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination to engage in interstate commerce or travel:

  1. The Department of Transportation, including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
  2. The National Railroad Passenger Corporation (commonly referred to as “Amtrak”).
  3. The Surface Transportation Board,
  4. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
  5. The National Transportation Safety Board.
  6. The Federal Maritime Commission.
  7. The Department of Commerce.

Sen. Rick Scott Introduces Freedom to Fly Act Banning TSA from Requiring Vaccine Passports

Senator Rick Scott introduced the Freedom to Fly Act, which would prohibit the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from requiring Americans to show proof of vaccination or produce a vaccine passport for domestic flights and protect the privacy of personal health information.

Senator Rick Scott said, “Americans are working hard to recover from the devastation of COVID-19 and travel is critical to getting our economy fully re-opened. While I continue to encourage everyone who wants one to get the vaccine, the federal government has no business requiring travelers to turn over their personal medical information to catch a flight. My Freedom to Fly Act ensures families in Florida and across the country can travel freely and without the ridiculous government bureaucracy created by vaccine passports.”

Sen. Rick Scott in Fox Business: Biden’s Vaccine Mandate Will Push Workers out of the Workforce, Cripple Supply Chain

Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for Fox Business on how the Biden administration’s latest vaccine mandate for private companies will further cause workforce shortages, continue to cripple supply chains, and worsen the ongoing inflation crisis that is to blame for the increase of prices on everyday goods.

In the op-edSenator Rick Scott wrote, “Biden’s latest vaccine mandate for private companies tramples on the personal freedoms of Americans, will push more workers out of the workforce, devastate our economy with product and service shortages that cripple supply chains and throw America into a stagflation crisis not seen since the 1970’s.

By forcing some working Americans to choose between keeping their jobs, or doing what they believe is best for their health, Biden’s mandate hurts the very people they claim it will help – workers, low-income Americans and seniors on a fixed income who will all either be hit with higher unemployment, higher prices or a shortage of available goods.

When I think about the impact of burdensome government regulations, I think about my dad. My adopted father was a truck driver. Anyone who has driven trucks or been close to someone in that line of work knows how demanding the job can be. It’s hard work and it’s one of the most critical jobs in our country.

Truck drivers are like the offensive linemen of America’s supply chain – often overlooked but absolutely essential to get things moving. There is already a driver shortage in this country and we can’t afford to lose any more.

In a weak economy where simply keeping shelves stocked is an everyday challenge, losing workers in almost any critical industry will have catastrophic impacts across our supply chains and drive prices higher.

We can never forget that as inflation worsens and prices surge higher, it’s the poorest Americans, like my family growing up and seniors on fixed income, that are hurt the most. Right now, we already have families across America having to make hard choices. There’s single moms wondering if they can put an extra few gallons of gas in the car and still afford to put dinner on the table this week. Or, a mom like mine who took on odd jobs to make ends meet and watched the smallest price changes at the grocery store to make sure we could still get by.

If President Biden actually talked with small and mid-size employers and hardworking families, like I have, he’d quickly learn that massive federal mandates aren’t the solution to any of our problems. I got the vaccine and I encourage others to talk with their doctor and consider doing the same. But getting the vaccine is a choice everyone gets to make for themselves.

Restoring our supply chains is critical to getting the American economy rolling again and it’s time for President Biden to acknowledge massive unconstitutional mandates on private companies won’t do anything but hurt American business and throw gasoline on the already raging inflation crisis he has created.”
