BREC changes monthly meeting location to Temple Israel

July 11, 2010 by Matt Nye · Leave a Comment

The Brevard Republican Executive Committee is now meeting at the Temple Israel at 7350 Lake Andrew Drive instead of the County Government Center. The change was facilitated by a close call in regards to use of the County Commission Chambers at a meeting earlier this year.

“Because the Executive Committee has grown so large, it has become difficult to find a venue to accommodate us,” said Davis. “We investigated several different facilities before we made this decision, and the Temple Israel was the best compromise between size, location and cost.”

The Executive Committee meets on the second Thursday of each month.

Bob White elected as new BREC Vice Chair

May 27, 2010 by Matt Nye · Leave a Comment

Bob White, a past President of the Homebuilders and Contractors Association of Brevard County, won a run-off election at the May 13 BREC meeting to become the new vice chairman. He succeeds Dave Isnardi, who had to resign for family health reasons.

White defeated James Marshal, President of the Brevard Republican Mens Club, by 25 votes on the second ballot. The three-way race on the first ballot, in which no candidate received a vote majority, also included Constitution supporter Mark Vance.

A member of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida, White says his goal, working with BREC chairman Barbara Davis, is to help build up our organization‟s membership.

2010 Lincoln Day Dinner sets new record for attendance

February 11, 2010 by Jason Steele · Leave a Comment

More than 500 people attended the Annual 2010 Brevard Republican Executive Committee Lincoln Day Dinner, the largest turnout in the history of the organization.

Incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolos hosted the event, which featured Candidate for US Senate Marco Rubio as the keynote speaker.

“We were thrilled with the turnout,” said Chairman Jason Steele. “It was great to see so many new faces in addition to the traditional supporters.”

Florida Senate President Elect Mike Haridopolos and Candidate for US Senate Marco Rubio will highlight the Brevard Republican Executive Committee’s 2010 Annual Lincoln Day Dinner. The black tie optional event, which is the committee’s primary annual fundraiser, will be Friday, February 5th at the Radisson Resort at the Port.

“We’re already seeing an incredible response, and the official invitations haven’t even hit the streets yet,” said Chairman Jason Steele. “We are thrilled to have Marco as our keynote speaker, and Senator Mike Haridopolos as our Master of Ceremonies.”

Vice Chair David Isnardi is in charge of a straw poll for candidates in State Cabinet races and higher. All of the candidates for the US Senate race were invited to speak before the BREC so Brevard Republicans could make an informed decision at the Lincoln Day Dinner straw poll.

“Open dialogue and honest debate are the core of our democratic process, and now that all of the candidates have been given the opportunity to speak before the committee we are excited to give attendees an opportunity to cast their vote for the candidate of their choice,” Isnardi said. “We are very grateful to Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott for making the straw poll possible by providing two voting machines for the event.”

Last year’s event drew in excess of 200 people and Committee Chair Clyde Thodey says he is setting the room for 300 this year. “People are fired up and ready to make a difference at all levels of government,” Thodey said. “Reckless spending by officials at every level are causing people to get up off the sofa and ask what they can do to help.”

Steele, who has recently questioned GOP leadership on a number of issues, confirms those sentiments, and says change is in the air. “Together, we are making significant changes,” Steele said.

Chairman placed on probation; local party united

September 8, 2009 by Jason Steele · Leave a Comment

MELBOURNE—After an exhaustive process of hearings and recriminations, the Republican Party of Florida has announced that Brevard GOP Chairman Jason Steele has been placed on probation for the remainder of his term as chairman.

The decision follows accusations by former Brevard Republican Executive Committee Secretary, Travis Clinger, that Mr. Steele acted inappropriately when he commissioned a poll be done while he was filed as a candidate to run against first term Republican state house member, John Tobia. The complaint also alleged that Mr. Steele may have acted inappropriately, when he announced that the BREC had voted to voice its disapproval for the state and national parties’ active hand in primary elections.
